Waterside District Schedule: May 8 – 10

Waterside District will be closed to the public May 8 – 10 to prepare for Grand Opening
celebrations that kick off on Thursday, May 11, and will continue through May 14. “We are
thrilled with the crowds who have visited Waterside District since we opened our doors, and we look forward to hosting everyone again once we open for the Grand Opening Celebration on May 11, with doors opening at 11:00 a.m.,” said Glenn Sutch, President of Waterside District. “We are excited to get ready for the full schedule of concerts and entertainment planned as part of the Grand Opening Celebrations.”

Grand Opening Ceremony and Celebration: May 11 – 14

Doors Open at 11:00 a.m. – Thursday, May 11
Join us at Waterside District for the Grand Opening Celebration! Doors open to Waterside
District at 11:00 a.m. The majority of restaurants and dining options will be open and ready to serve guests: The Market, Blue Moon TapHouse, PBR Norfolk, Guy Fieri’s Smokehouse, Harbor Club and The Fudgery will all be open. There are some venues that are opening after Grand Opening, including Stripers Waterside (opening fall 2017) and Chipotle (opening summer 2017).

Grand Opening Ceremony at 5:00 p.m. – Thursday, May 11
The official grand opening ceremony starts at 5:00 p.m. as special guests Mayor Alexander, David Cordish and Zed Smith of The Cordish Companies, Glenn Sutch of Waterside District, and others take the stage to celebrate the grand opening. The winning artist from the Governor’s School for the Arts will also be there to unveil the new mermaid statue for Waterside District. The Ceremony will be held near the stage on the waterfront side of Waterside District (if it rains, the ceremony will be moved indoors to The Market).

Live Music, Activities, Contests and More -​ May 11 – 14
There will be many activities and events taking place May 11 – 14, as we celebrate our official Grand Opening, including rock bands Weezer* and New Politics*, country music acts Chase Rice*, Jameson Rodgers* and Carly Pearce*, jazz band Good Shot Judy, yacht rock band Schooner or Later, Maritime Salute on the Elizabeth River, family fun wit Streetmosphere and so much more! *Please Note: ​Weezer/New Politics and Chase Rice/Jameson Rodgers/Carly Pearce
will play in the ‘MULE,’ our outdoor, multi-use lot for entertainment located next to Towne Bank Fountain Park. This is an age-restricted area.​ All patrons must be 21+ with a valid ID to enter. Be sure to check out our event calendar on our website that details any age restrictions. We will be offering many events at the opening and in the future for all ages.

In addition, we are expecting large crowds for these two shows, and we will try our best
to accommodate everyone. To ensure entry into the concert(s) you want to attend, we suggest arriving early. There will be a queue line for entrance to these concerts starting at 9:00 a.m.

Hours of Operation

How to Get to Waterside District: Bus, Rail, Car or Ferry!

By Bus:​ The Hampton Roads Transit bus system has five routes that serve Waterside. They are routes 6, 8, 45, 960 and 961. Patrons destined for Waterside District often use the bus stop at Waterside Dr. and Commercial Pl., which is a short walk from Waterside District.

By Rail: ​The Tide light rail has a stop at MacArthur Square which is less than a 10-minute walk from Waterside District.

By Ferry: ​The Elizabeth River Ferry connects the downtowns of Norfolk and Portsmouth. The Ferry will be free on May 13 and 14 courtesy of Elizabeth River Crossings. ​Find the schedule here: http://gohrt.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/ferry-schedule.pdf

By Car / Parking Info:​ Parking is available at nearby Norfolk parking decks, including the Waterside parking garage. The cost is $1.50 hour, and the City usually offers a flat cash only rate of $5/day during special events.

Valet parking is also an option. Valet parking is located in front of the Waterside Street side of The Market entrance. Valet pricing is $7 on Sunday through Thursday, and $15 on Friday and Saturday. A nice option if you’re going to be at Waterside District all day for an event.
