The Cordish Companies is thrilled to announce two new venues for Waterside District – Cogan’s Pizza and Carolina Cupcakery. Both venues will make their debut next spring when the dining and entertainment district opens on Norfolk’s iconic waterfront.
“We’re excited to have Cogan’s Pizza and Carolina Cupcakery as part of the lineup of local businesses that will become part of Waterside District,” said Norfolk Mayor Paul D. Fraim. “I would like to thank The Cordish Companies for their commitment to bringing high quality, eclectic tenants to Waterside District and we look forward to future announcements of the regional and national businesses that will be joining our local entrepreneurs.”
Cogan’s Pizza, a Hampton Roads favorite by restauranteurs Richard Katz and David Filipowski, will open its third location at Waterside District. Known for serving uniquely topped pizzas with an optional spicy sauce, a variety of pastas and an excellent selection of over 30 different beers on tap, Cogan’s Pizza will become an instant hit for local residents and visitors alike. Their location in the Waterside District will feature two signature wood-‐‑ burning pizza ovens in full view of their guests.
“When we decided to open our third location, we knew it had to be at Waterside District,” said Richard Katz, Co-‐‑Founder of Cogan’s Pizza. “Dave and I grew up here and to have Cogan’s Pizza be a part of the revitalization of the historic Waterside building is very special for us. We appreciate that The Cordish Companies worked hard to make this possible and we are going to deliver an incredible experience for the people of Norfolk.”
Founded in 2007 by Dawn Eskins, Carolina Cupcakery is a well-‐‑known bakery in the Hampton Roads area that has received national acclaim for appearing on two seasons of the Food Network’s Cupcake Wars. Recognized as Retailer of the Year in 2012 by Retail Alliance, Carolina Cupcakery features over 300 different flavors of cupcakes made from all-‐‑ natural ingredients.
“Our passion for creating the best experience for our customers mirrored the approach of The Cordish Companies exactly,” said Dawn Eskins, Founder of Carolina Cupcakery. “We’re so excited to open at Waterside District next spring.”
“We are thrilled to be able to work with local and regional entrepreneurs and to provide an ability for their expansion in a truly compelling fashion. Combining local authenticity and talent with the national names that we will soon be announcing will allow Waterside District to provide a great variety of experiences for our guests,” stated Reed S. Cordish, Vice President of The Cordish Companies.
Cogan’s Pizza and Carolina Cupcakery join Starrhill in the previously announced Market, a 30,000 square foot, two level anchor concept located in the heart of Waterside District. Connecting Waterside Drive to the waterfront, The Market will feature a variety of unique food and beverage concepts as well as be a home for entertainment, festivals and family attractions alike. The Market is being designed by the internationally acclaimed Jeffrey Beers International. Further announcements of concepts joining The Market will be made in the weeks and months ahead.
